Day One – Hello World :)

Today is 2020 Mar 20. It’s the second day of spring 2020. It’s the day after California Governor Gavin Newsom ordered all California residents to stay home and avoid all non-essential movement to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“——

STAY AT HOME REQUIREMENTS

All Californians must stay at home except to get food, prescriptions and health care, care for a friend or relative, walking the dog and taking outdoor exercise such as walking, running or hiking. When people do go out, they should practice social distancing.

It’s the day I’ve been reading people’s stories on reddit responding to the question, “What has this pandemic ruined for you?”, evoking compassion for people suffering from domestic abuse who are even more imprisoned by the pandemic, for athletes now denied a chance at an Olympic gold, and for all the service workers who are suddenly out of a job.

It’s ten days after I was sent the link to Mark Manson’s article “How to Stop Procrastinating” (by a romance scammer, but it was a good wakeup call lol). There’s a lot that I identified with in his article but most of all, this: “The more you care about the outcome, the harder it feels to achieve. The less you care, the more naturally it comes to you.”

So, I’ve determined not to care (too much) about this blog, but to use this time of social distancing and insecurity about the future, to do my part to bring some hope or joy or peace or at least something productive, out of a difficult time. How, I haven’t fully decided yet, but I have some ideas. But since it’s taken this long for me to even write this intro, I’m just going to let each blog post develop. I will try to hold myself to some kind of deadline, to write at least once a week.

Today is a year, six months, and ten days since I let this domain expire, having paid for a year and not having written a thing. So today is the day when I decided to Just Do It. Reset all my lost passwords and resolved to start something new despite not having a plan and in fact knowing that I don’t know what I’m doing, except for some vague generalities. At the very least, maybe this can be a way of building my own sort of community, during what looks to be maybe a year and a half of turbulent times, and of movement myself.

In short, today is the day! I hope this helps anyone else to do likewise and Just Do It!
