Mortality and SARS-COV-2

It’s been a harsh six months since my first post. I’m embarrassed as an American at the patchwork mess of a country that our president has encouraged. There is too much that has happened here that I can write about with any sense of appropriateness.

COVID-19 deaths will hit 200,000 Americans, surpassing initial hopes of keeping deaths down to 100,000 or even 200,000, as the pandemic is far from over yet. Bill Gates estimates we have at least another year of COVID-19, all the way to the end of 2021, before we can estimate that the pandemic may be over. All I can say is that it is clear that there is a lot of reckless disregard for human life in this country and this president has encouraged rather than discouraged such recklessness. I’m ashamed to say that even the church has been folded into this insanity. God help us.

Race riots, storms, fires. It’s one thing after another in 2020. On top of that, we’re finding out that even if COVID-19 doesn’t kill you or send you to the hospital, perfectly healthy and fit younger people can have “long haul” symptoms that impair basic motor and mental functions indefinitely.

All I can say right now is that we need to observe some silence for all those who have passed and continue to pass during this deadly pandemic; to stay above the hate and propaganda; and to continue to protect ourselves and everyone around us.
