“Job Hunting Is A Survival Skill”

What Color Is Your Parachute 2022 – maybe I’ll just start calling it WCIYP 2022 – is so much better than I remember reading last time. From the first chapter with my comments [in brackets]:

“You want the job market to be a hiring game, but the employer regards it as an elimination game – until the very last phase. … Employers’ main value/concern is risk. Job hunters’ main value/concern is time.

In general, full-time jobs (usually defined as working more than thirty-five hours a week) are getting harder and harder to find. … By all accounts, the number and percentage of freelance workers is expected to grow every year. [Yikes.] … Job hunting is no longer an optional exercise. It is a survival skill. This means the one thing in our life that we must get really skilled at, and become masters of, is the new job hunt.

Knowing who you are, what you like and do best, what kindles your brain and what enables you to do your best work has never been more important than in the reimagined workplace that is already here. Don’t ignore this step in your job search. … [E.g.] Maybe working from home was a revelation and you don’t ever want to go back. [Preach!!!]”

What disturbing trends in the job market! I have seen pensions become a thing of the past, but full-time jobs on the chopping block?!? Wow. I would never have imagined. Well, that’s enough for today.
