Flower Exercise: Petal 3, Story 7

It is ROUGH posting in the evening – I really need to do this before work.

Okay, last story – this is probably the most “fun” of all my stories. I was serving as the director at a nonprofit where I was a jack of all trades to the chairman for all kinds of things he needed to be done, including legal work. One day, he asked me if I could help him with a question about Australian law and I just laughed, because law is not like science. Legal systems are not universal – American law differs so much from state to state that you need a separate bar license and here he was asking me about the legal system of an entirely different country.

So I told him I would see what I could do and I actually was able to find him help by asking one of my legal connections if they could refer me to an Australian law firm, which they were able to do. What’s funny about this story is that he asked me to do something I was incapable of doing myself, yet I still managed to accomplish the task fairly easily anyway with just a few contacts.

It really made me think about how it really never hurts to make a seemingly impossible ask of somebody. And that I don’t think nearly as big enough about myself and about other people as I should. I really limit what I think I’m capable of and what I think other people are capable of. I’m not sure how to fix that, but that’s one thing that occurs to me from this story.
