I only got through five emails and found one I hadn’t starred / flagged before where my ex-boss said that they needed my “administrative talents far more than knowledge of Congress” – which was surprising given that ostensibly, my primary task on paper was to serve the child organization. But in actuality, my primary job was to do whatever was necessary for the parent organization and to free up my ex-boss’s time for his home projects / personal life and as long as that was happening, everything else was apparently gravy.

I think my other “talents” were around directing people – getting and keeping the wrong people out and finding and keeping the right people in, as well as executing the vision I was tasked with to the best of my understanding and abilities, which was not the organization’s historical best, but my own initiative was at least not lacking.
